The Sacred Hunt serves as an entry point for non-hunting adults and Scouts (ages 9+) into the world of consumptive use of fish and wildlife. It is NOT the Hunter Education course required by Indiana state law for anyone born in 1987 or later. Luckily, the state allows prospective hunters to still participate in a limited number of mentored hunts before taking the Hunter Education course.

Classes are held far enough in advance of the opening of hunting seasons to allow students time to acquire their own clothing, equipment, and archery tackle to participate in mentored hunts.

Completing a Scared Hunt course makes you a member of the Sacred Hunt Community, a network of students and mentors in the Indianapolis area and beyond.

  1. Tracking (biology, sign, trailing, aging)
  2. Camouflage (scent control, blinds, clothing)
  3. Stalking (movement, stillness, bird language)
  4. Weapon construction/acquisition (crossbows, shopping, sizing)
  5. Weapon utilization (archery)

All classes are capped at 15 students and fill up quickly. Single individual registrations are available, however, we recommend finding a buddy such as a close relative or good friend to share this experience with you. Research shows that having people to hunt with dramatically increases your motivation to get out in the field!
