Adult Programs: Southeast Pathway
A truly unique Pathway built on the foundation of movement comprehension, strength, play and fighting. Our Move Primal instructors (Richard Todd, Ryan Hadley, Joey Leveille) are passionate lifelong practitioners in this warrior training.
Movement includes all the possible shapes and patterns your body is capable of. It involves coordinating your spine and limbs to express your intentions. Move Primal gives you simple ways to address movement so that you can move well. We focus on spinal mobility and learning kinesthetic awareness, where your body is in space. We practice full range of motion and many angles and loads to simulate the diverse challenges of nature.
Strength is the master skill of fitness. It is the most useful. Conditioning that allows strength and power endurance are developed alongside of the extremes of low intensity endurance and maximal strength. The Strength Guild will have various techniques of stone and log lifting, and partner techniques such as carries.
Play is critical to development and understanding. We learn about our own limits and how to interact with others. We play using games with a few simple rules and a partner. Games are used as a safe way to explore who you are and what you can do. We learn to adapt and improvise in the chaos of play. That prepares us for the real world physically and cognitively. Play is also tied to fighting and teaches us how to work with a partner. We learn to watch where your partner is, when to react, and the rhythm of fighting movements.
We all feel the Primal need to protect our family and the innocent victim we may have a moral obligation to defend, at whatever cost. The Protector should have a working knowledge of all ranges of unarmed combat. This requires practice against resistance. Risk can be minimized, but not eliminated, by knowing where to go hard and where minimal contact should be applied. This allows consistent training. The Fighting Guild will cover the ranges of unarmed combat with fundamental techniques that take the shortest time to learn and apply. We will give you the experience and drills to take home to practice with friends and family. Nothing beats going to a class regularly to learn from a competent instructor. You will find a new level of camaraderie with your training partners, regardless of who wins and loses.
All of our Adult Pathways focus on the core routines essential to train towards a Quest. Core routines are best practiced on a daily or weekly basis to transition a person from beginner to novice. This ‘green zone’ training can take years of dirt time. Eventually in all Pathways there comes the time for the Quest, for our SouthWest Pathway this takes the form of the Survival Quest for the North Pathway this takes the form of the Vision Quest, for the SouthEast Pathway this takes the form of the Move Primal Warrior Challenge. Like all Quests this challenge includes time alone in the wilderness, facing our fears through asceticism, elements from all four guilds in the Move Primal pyramid; Movement, Strength, Play and Fighting, with additional Scouting components of Endurance, Stealth and Awareness.
Participants can start at any point in their training, challenges and goals will be based on improvement not on beginning levels of performance.
This 9 month Pathway will begin September 2020, with enrollment opening in May.
